My Profile

I spent four great years at Edinburgh University where I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.   I furthered my education at Wharton Business School in Philadelphia;  London Business School,  Ashridge and Oxford College in the UK.   I am a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and a Chartered Engineer(CEng).

After University,  I joined the Scottish Electrical Training Scheme (SETS) where I worked with Parsons Peebles, Scottish Hydro Electric, Ferranti and South of Scotland Electricity Board.  During this time, I worked in the Frigg gas field in the North Sea and down the pit at Tower Colliery; Wales' last deep mine.

My first "real" job was with the South of Scotland Electricity Board (later to become ScottishPower) as an operational field engineer in Dumfries.  I moved on to a number of senior management positions including Customer Services Manager, Control Centre Manager,  Business Support Manager and Connections Manager.

I gained international experience in Japan with Kyushu Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and also in India as a member of a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) delegation to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
